About Us
The Royal Hotel has been a part of Riebeek Kasteel for hundreds of years and is the oldest hotel in the Western Cape. Its famous arched stoep was the site of several important events, including the drafting of the UN preamble by politician Jan Smuts. The 1927 architecture is still beautifully conserved, with contemporary amenities added via careful modifications like the 2005 refurbishment. The hotel sits in the Riebeek Valley, which was discovered in the 17th century by Commander Jan van Riebeeck. The valley is full of rich cultural history.
