The View Gonubie

Judy Jennings, who is from the Eastern Cape, started The View Collective with the goal of showing off the area’s natural beauty via small, design-led places to stay. Since 2018, The View Gonubie has been our flagship resort, welcoming discerning guests. This place started off as a riverside hideaway and has now turned into an award-winning boutique hotel. It won an award in 2022 for its unique hybrid meeting facilities and has consistently received 5-star reviews from guests.

Signature Suites with a View of the River

Our five designed rooms combine modern South African style with smart design. The Feature Suite has 42 square meters of luxury, with a king-size bed, a private balcony with views of the Gonubie River, and a freestanding bathtub that looks out over the sunset. Some eco-friendly details include furniture made by local craftsmen and solar-heated water systems.

Guest Rooms That Can Be Changed

Our Twin Room has beds that can be changed and a desk with high-speed Wi-Fi, making it great for families or business travellers. The Cosy Room is a beautiful and inexpensive alternative with a balcony that looks out over the street and bespoke soundproofing for peace and quiet in the city.

Luxury that is easy to get to

We are happy to provide wheelchair-accessible rooms with roll-in showers, tactile signs, and adjustable lighting. This is not common among boutique hotels in the Eastern Cape.

Food and Health Experiences

Our riverfront restaurant has a tasting menu that changes every week to highlight seasonal ingredients from the Eastern Cape. The thatched lapa eating area smoothly changes from serving coffee in the morning to seafood dinners by moonlight. We don’t have a complete spa, but visitors may perform yoga on the jetty at dawn and get massages in their rooms from reputable local therapists.

We are just 12 minutes from East London Airport, making us the perfect place to stay for both business meetings in the Buffalo City area and beachcombing along the Gonubie walking track. Our property is part of the “Adopt-a-River” clean-up program, and 5% of the money we make from rooms goes to local environmental education programs.
