Profile
Haggards on Hilldrop is full of history. It used to be the beloved farm of Sir Rider Haggard, the famous author of King Solomon’s Mines. This historic building is now a guesthouse that combines rustic beauty with contemporary conveniences in a peaceful location. It is located on 3 hectares of native woodland that is full with birdsong. It is a peaceful getaway approximately 4 km from Newcastle’s city centre and close to attractions like Blackrock Casino and the Drakensberg.

Rooms
Our cosy guestrooms include air conditioning, DSTV, and private bathrooms with free coffee & tea. You may choose between double, king, or twin beds, and you can use the safe parking, office, and Wi-Fi. You may relax by the outdoor pool or go for a walk in the woods just outside your door.
Cottages on the Farm
Our refurbished farm cottages, which are named after the original Coach House and Stables, blend rustic charm with contemporary comfort for a more private visit. These cottages are in a natural forest that covers 1.8 hectares. They provide seclusion, a backup generator during power outages, and access to a pool that is open all year. They are great for families or small parties since they include all the facilities and optional housekeeping services.
Eating and relaxing
Have a big breakfast every day to start your day off well, or set up a private meal in our peaceful surroundings. The Honesty Bar, which has a pool table, is a popular place for people to hang out at night. The Braai Lapa, on the other hand, is a great place for people to meet under the stars. Even though we only provide restaurant services by appointment, we nevertheless concentrate on quality and simplicity.
Amenities and Facilities
Haggards on Hilldrop is more than just a place to stay; it also has useful amenities like laundry facilities, a car wash, and dependable Wi-Fi. The property’s history, which includes stories like Sir Haggard’s favourite horse, Moresco, gives it a certain appeal that makes visitors want to connect with the past while enjoying modern comforts.
See Newcastle and more
Our getaway is in the perfect spot for getting to Newcastle’s parks, shopping, and other attractions. Haggards on Hilldrop is a great place to stay for both fun and adventure since it’s easy to take day trips to the Kruger National Park or the Drakensberg.
