Visit Khowa

About Khowa

Khowa (formerly Elliot) is a tranquil mountain town situated in the Eastern Cape’s Southern Drakensberg region, approximately 180km northwest of Mthatha. Sitting on top at 1,400 metres above sea level, this highland settlement offers cool summers and crisp winters, with panoramic views of the surrounding valleys.

Renamed in 2021 to honour local heritage, Khowa serves as a gateway to the picturesque Barkly Pass and provides access to some of the province’s most spectacular hiking routes through indigenous forests and mountain streams.
