About Mazeppa Bay
Mazeppa Bay is a remote coastal village located along the Eastern Cape‘s spectacular Wild Coast, approximately 120km south of Mthatha. Situated where the Mbanyana River meets the Indian Ocean, this hidden gem features one of the most picturesque bays in South Africa, with a distinctive island connected to the mainland by a suspension bridge. The area remains refreshingly undeveloped, offering visitors an authentic taste of Wild Coast beauty.
Mazeppa Bay is surrounded by dramatic coastal cliffs, dense coastal forests and kilometres of untouched beaches. The Bay’s subtropical climate ensures warm temperatures year-round, while its remote location guarantees peaceful seclusion. The area forms part of the traditional homeland of the Xhosa people, with rich cultural heritage evident in local villages.
