About Van Reenen
Van Reenen is a small mountain village located in the northern Drakensberg range of Free State, approximately 300km southeast of Johannesburg. Situated at 1,680 meters above sea level near the famous Van Reenen’s Pass, this picturesque settlement serves as a vital stopover on the busy N3 route between Durban and Johannesburg.
The area experiences cool summers and cold winters with frequent mist and occasional snowfall. Van Reenen’s landscape features dramatic sandstone cliffs, rolling grasslands and panoramic views across the Little Drakensberg escarpment. The village’s strategic position makes it an ideal base for exploring the surrounding mountain wilderness while being conveniently accessible from major transport routes.
