About Mashishing

Mashishing (formerly known as Lydenburg) is located in Mpumalanga‘s picturesque highveld region, approximately 250km east of Johannesburg. Situated at an elevation of 1,400 metres in the Long Tom Pass valley, this historic town is surrounded by the dramatic peaks of the Drakensberg escarpment. The area’s cool climate and fertile soils support thriving agricultural communities and spectacular natural scenery.

The town of Mashishing serves as an important service centre for the surrounding farming district and a gateway to Mpumalanga’s famous Panorama Route. Mashishing’s position along the R37 makes it an ideal stopover for travellers exploring the region’s waterfalls, viewpoints and historic sites. The Steelpoort River flows nearby, adding to the area’s natural beauty.
