Pilgrim’s Rest is located in Mpumalanga province, located in the picturesque Highlands region along the Panorama Route. This historic gold mining town sits at an altitude of 1,200 metres above sea level, surrounded by the dramatic cliffs and forested valleys of the Drakensberg escarpment. The area enjoys mild summers and cool winters, with frequent mist adding to its atmospheric charm.

Declared a national monument in 1986, the entire town of Pilgrim’s Rest has been preserved as it was during the 1870s gold rush. Located about 40km from Graskop, the village maintains its original layout with authentic period buildings, offering visitors a unique glimpse into South Africa’s mining heritage. The surrounding landscape features waterfalls, hiking trails and panoramic viewpoints.
