About Sabie
Sabie is located in Mpumalanga‘s Highlands region, approximately 80km east of Mbombela along the Panorama Route. This picturesque forestry town sits at an elevation of 1,050 metres amidst the largest man-made forest in South Africa, surrounded by dramatic waterfalls and deep river gorges. The area enjoys a mild subtropical climate with cool winters and warm, rainy summers.
Founded during the 19th century gold rush, Sabie transformed into a thriving forestry centre with extensive pine and eucalyptus plantations. The landscape combines commercial plantations with pockets of indigenous forest, spectacular waterfalls like Bridal Veil Falls, and the winding Sabie River. The town’s position along the R532 makes it easily accessible while maintaining its tranquil mountain atmosphere.
