About Secunda

Secunda is located in Mpumalanga‘s Highveld region, approximately 130km east of Johannesburg. This planned industrial town sits at an elevation of 1,600 metres amidst vast coal fields that fuel South Africa‘s energy needs. The area experiences a temperate highveld climate with summer thunderstorms and cold, dry winters.

Established in 1974 to support the Sasol synthetic fuels complex, Secunda features modern infrastructure surrounded by mine workings and power stations. The landscape combines industrial facilities with carefully maintained green belts and recreational areas. Secunda’s position along the N17 highway provides good transport connections while maintaining its purpose-built community atmosphere.
