About Fraserburg

Fraserburg sits in the vast open plains of the Northern Cape’s Great Karoo, 370km northeast of Cape Town. Founded in 1851, this remote desert town is surrounded by some of Earth’s oldest rock formations, with fossil beds dating back 250 million years. The crisp, dry air and lack of light pollution create exceptional stargazing conditions, while the dramatic landscapes feature towering sandstone cliffs and rare succulents.
