About Kromdraai
Kromdraai is a paleontological treasure situated within the Gauteng‘s Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, approximately 45km northwest of Johannesburg. This fertile valley, whose name means “crooked turn” in Afrikaans, contains some of the world’s richest fossil-bearing caves.
The site gained international recognition after the discovery of “Mrs Ples” and other Australopithecus fossils that revolutionised our understanding of human evolution. Today, Kromdraai remains an active research site while offering visitors extraordinary access to our ancient past.
