About Kokstad

Kokstad is a historic town situated in the KwaZulu-Natal highlands, approximately 170km southwest of Durban. At an altitude of 1,300 metres above sea level near the Lesotho border, this regional centre was founded in 1869 by Griqua leader Adam Kok III.

Surrounded by the southern Drakensberg foothills, Kokstad offers crisp mountain air and panoramic views of Mount Currie, serving as the commercial hub for the East Griqualand region while retaining its distinctive frontier character.
