About Pinetown

Pinetown is located approximately 20km west of Durban’s city centre in KwaZulu-Natal, positioned along the N3 national route between Durban and Johannesburg. This important industrial and residential area sits at an elevation of about 300 metres above sea level, enjoying slightly cooler temperatures than coastal Durban while maintaining the province’s humid subtropical climate.

Established in 1850 around a pine plantation that gave the town its name, Pinetown has grown into a major commercial and manufacturing centre. The area features a mix of industrial zones, busy commercial districts and established residential suburbs, all benefiting from excellent transport links to Durban and the wider province. The landscape transitions from urban development to the rolling green hills characteristic of KwaZulu-Natal’s interior.
