About Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia is located on the northeastern coast of KwaZulu-Natal, approximately 275km north of Durban within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. This vibrant village sits on the shores of Lake St Lucia, Africa’s largest estuarine system, where the warm Indian Ocean meets freshwater wetlands. The area enjoys a subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters perfect for year-round wildlife viewing. Established in 1895, St Lucia serves as the main gateway to South Africa’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. The landscape combines lush coastal forests with expansive wetlands, dunes and beaches that support incredible biodiversity. St Lucia’s position along the R618 makes it easily accessible while maintaining its wilderness character amidst one of Africa’s most significant conservation areas.
