About Underberg

Underberg is a picturesque country town located in the foothills of the southern Drakensberg mountains in KwaZulu-Natal. Situated approximately 150km southwest of Durban, this alpine-style village lies near the border with Lesotho at an altitude of 1,550 meters above sea level.

The area experiences cool summers and cold winters with occasional snowfall, creating ideal conditions for outdoor adventures year-round. Underberg’s landscape is dominated by the towering Drakensberg escarpment, crystal-clear rivers and rolling green hills. The town serves as the main gateway to the southern Drakensberg’s hiking trails and the spectacular Sani Pass into Lesotho.
