About Mooi River
Mooi River is a lovely little town located in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, approximately 150km northwest of Durban along the N3 highway. Situated at an elevation of 1,400 metres where the Mooi River (meaning “pretty river” in Afrikaans) flows through rolling grasslands, this area serves as an important stopover between Johannesburg and Durban.
Mooi River’s strategic position along major transport routes has made it a traditional resting point for travellers. Surrounded by dairy farms and timber plantations, The town offers panoramic views of the Drakensberg foothills and access to numerous trout fishing spots in the clear mountain streams that feed the river system.
