About Newcastle

Newcastle is the third-largest city in KwaZulu-Natal, located approximately 330km northwest of Durban near the Free State and Mpumalanga borders. Situated at the foothills of the Drakensberg mountains along the N11 corridor, this important industrial centre combines urban development with stunning natural surroundings. The area features rolling grasslands, rocky outcrops and the meandering Ngagane River that flows through the city.

Positioned at an elevation of 1,194 metres, Newcastle enjoys a moderate highland climate with warm summers and cool winters that occasionally bring frost. The city serves as the commercial hub for northern KwaZulu-Natal, with its strategic location making it a vital link between Durban and Gauteng. The surrounding landscape offers panoramic views of the Drakensberg escarpment and access to numerous nature reserves.
