About Port Shepstone

Port Shepstone is located on KwaZulu-Natal‘s South Coast, approximately 120km southwest of Durban where the Mzimkulu River meets the Indian Ocean. This bustling coastal town serves as the administrative and commercial hub of the Hibiscus Coast region, enjoying a warm subtropical climate with mild winters and humid summers typical of the KwaZulu-Natal coastline.

Established in 1867 as a port town, Port Shepstone has grown into one of the South Coast’s most important centres while retaining its seaside character. The landscape combines golden beaches with the dramatic Mzimkulu River Gorge, creating diverse environments for both recreation and wildlife. The town’s strategic position along the N2 highway makes it easily accessible while serving as a gateway to the Wild Coast and smaller coastal resorts.
