Richards Bay is located on South Africa’s northeast coast in KwaZulu-Natal, approximately 160km northeast of Durban. This modern port city sits on the shores of a massive natural lagoon within the Mhlathuze River estuary, surrounded by lush coastal forests and wetlands.

Developed in the 1970s around South Africa’s largest deepwater port, Richards Bay combines industrial infrastructure with exceptional natural assets. The city’s landscape features a unique juxtaposition of massive industrial complexes alongside pristine beaches, protected wetlands and coastal dune forests.
