Visit Vryheid
Vryheid is a historic town located in northern KwaZulu-Natal, approximately 300km northeast of Durban. Situated at 1,150 meters above sea level on the Transvaal-KwaZulu-Natal border, this former Boer republic capital is surrounded by rolling grasslands and dramatic sandstone formations.
The area experiences mild summers and cool winters with occasional frost. Vryheid’s landscape combines historic architecture with sweeping views across the Battlefields region. The town serves as an important agricultural and mining center while providing access to significant Anglo-Zulu and Anglo-Boer war sites.
