Visit Malagas

About Malagas

Malgas is a small rural settlement located along the Breede River in the Western Cape‘s Overberg district, approximately 40km northeast of Swellendam. Positioned at an important historical crossing point, this peaceful village serves as a gateway between the Overberg farmlands and the Langeberg region.

Malgas developed as a settlement around the Breede River’s shallow crossing point, which remains operational today as South Africa’s last hand-drawn pontoon ferry. Malgas’ location makes it an ideal stopover for travellers exploring the Route 62 wine route or journeying between Cape Town and the Garden Route.
