About Oudtshoorn

Oudtshoorn is a historic town located in the Western Cape‘s Klein Karoo region, approximately 400km east of Cape Town. Situated between the Swartberg and Outeniqua mountain ranges, this unique destination is known as the ostrich capital of the world. The area features semi-arid landscapes dotted with aloe plants and dramatic rock formations, contrasting with lush valleys fed by the Grobbelaars River.

Positioned along the famous Route 62, Oudtshoorn enjoys a distinctive microclimate with hot summers and mild winters. The town serves as the main urban centre of the Klein Karoo, surrounded by working ostrich farms and vineyards producing distinctive Karoo wines. Its location makes it the perfect base for exploring the region’s natural wonders including the Cango Caves and Swartberg Pass.
