About Malmesbury

Malmesbury is a historic town located in the Western Cape‘s Swartland region, approximately 60km northeast of Cape Town. Situated amidst rolling wheat fields and vineyards, this agricultural centre serves as the administrative capital of the Swartland municipality. The town’s position along the N7 highway makes it a convenient stop for travellers exploring the West Coast route.

Founded in 1745, Malmesbury boasts some of the best-preserved Cape Dutch architecture in the province. The town’s elevation provides panoramic views of the surrounding farmlands, with the nearby Groen River adding to the scenic beauty. Malmesbury’s Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and cool winters, makes it pleasant to visit year-round.
