About Prince Alfred Hamlet

Prince Alfred Hamlet is located in the Western Cape‘s Overberg region, approximately 140km east of Cape Town in the picturesque Buffeljags River valley. This small agricultural village sits surrounded by fruit orchards and wheat fields, with the Langeberg Mountains forming a dramatic backdrop to its rural landscape.

Established in 1861 and named after Queen Victoria’s second son, the hamlet developed as a service centre for surrounding fruit and wheat farms. The area enjoys a Mediterranean climate with warm summers and cool, wet winters ideal for agriculture. Prince Alfred Hamlet’s position along the R43 route between Swellendam and Caledon makes it easily accessible while retaining its peaceful farming community atmosphere.
