About Seven Weeks Poort

Seven Weeks Poort is located in the Western Cape‘s Klein Karoo region, approximately 30km northeast of Ladismith. This spectacular mountain pass cuts through the Swartberg range, connecting the Little Karoo with the Great Karoo through towering sandstone cliffs and rugged rock formations. The area experiences a semi-arid climate with hot summers and cool winters.

Formed over millions of years by erosion, Seven Weeks Poort features some of South Africa’s most dramatic geological formations. The landscape showcases folded rock strata, natural arches and sheer cliff faces that rise hundreds of metres above the winding gravel road. The poort’s remote location along the R323 route maintains its wild, untouched character while providing access to the region’s stark beauty.
