Visit Sir Lowry’s Pass

About Sir Lowry’s Pass

Sir Lowry’s Pass is located in the Western Cape, approximately 60km east of Cape Town, where the N2 highway crosses the Hottentots Holland mountain range. This important mountain pass sits at an elevation of 460 metres, offering panoramic views of False Bay, Table Mountain and the Cape Flats below. The area experiences a Mediterranean climate with cool, wet winters and warm, dry summers.

Named after the Cape Colony’s governor Sir Lowry Cole, the current pass was completed in 1830 and remains a vital transport route. The landscape combines rugged mountain slopes with fynbos-covered hillsides and sweeping vistas across the coastal plain. Sir Lowry’s Pass Village at the foot of the mountains serves as a convenient stopover with easy access to both Cape Town and the Overberg region.
