About Stellenbosch
Stellenbosch is located in the Western Cape‘s Winelands region, approximately 50km east of Cape Town. This historic university town sits in a fertile valley surrounded by the Stellenbosch, Drakenstein and Jonkershoek mountain ranges, with elevations ranging from 100 to 450 metres above sea level. The area enjoys a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters ideal for viticulture.
Founded in 1679, Stellenbosch is South Africa’s second oldest town, featuring well-preserved Cape Dutch architecture and oak-lined avenues. The landscape combines vineyards, fruit orchards and mountain fynbos with a vibrant university campus. Stellenbosch’s position along the R44 wine route makes it easily accessible while maintaining its distinguished academic and wine-producing character.
