About Swellendam
Swellendam is located in the Western Cape‘s Overberg region, approximately 220km east of Cape Town. This picturesque country town sits at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains, where the Breede River Valley meets the southern slopes, creating a landscape of exceptional natural beauty. The area enjoys a Mediterranean climate with warm summers and cool, wet winters.
Established in 1745 as South Africa’s third oldest town, Swellendam boasts well-preserved Cape Dutch architecture and oak-lined streets. The surrounding landscape combines fruit orchards, wheat fields and mountain fynbos with the meandering Breede River. Swellendam’s position along the N2 highway makes it easily accessible while maintaining its peaceful rural character.
