About Us
A History and Warmth That Lasts
Welgelegen Guest House is a small, unique place that is full of Cape Town’s rich history. The property used to be two family residences. It was then carefully turned into a 14-room guest house that was a safe place for Jewish orphans. Today, its interconnecting courtyards and carefully chosen furnishings, which are decorated with textiles from the owner’s family business, Room 13, mix history with modern comfort. This distinct backdrop gives every room a personality, giving visitors more than simply a place to stay; it gives them a narrative to tell.

Food and Wellbeing
The dining area is bright and sunny, and the food is made with fresh, seasonal ingredients with Cape Malay flavours. Welgelegen doesn’t have a restaurant on site, but the concierge crew is happy to suggest the lively restaurants on Kloof Street, which are just a short walk away.
Take a swim in the plunge pool to relax, or get lost in a book from the library. Even though the guest house doesn’t have a spa, the peaceful courtyard and individual service make it easy to rest.

Sustainability and Location
Welgelegen’s Gardens neighbourhood is right at the foot of Table Mountain and is only a short walk from Kloof Street’s cafes and galleries. The V&A Waterfront and Camps Bay beaches are 15 minutes away by car. The cable car to Table Mountain is much closer.
The guest house isn’t officially eco-certified, but it shows that it cares about responsible tourism by preserving historic structures and supporting local craftspeople.
