About Us
A History of Hospitality For More Than 100 Years
The Windsor Hotel has been a mainstay of Hermanus hospitality for more than 125 years. It was once known as The Sanatorium in 1896. Originally established to take advantage of the town’s reputation for pure sea air and peacefulness, our hotel has become a popular seaside getaway while keeping its historic charm. We have welcomed generations of tourists to see the amazing Southern Right whale migrations from our perch on Marine Drive overlooking Walker Bay. This tradition is still a big part of who we are.
The Windsor Hotel Is Your Coastal Sanctuary for Accommodation
Rooms with a View of the Sea
In our unique sea-facing rooms, you’ll wake up to the sound of waves crashing against the shore. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide you unobstructed views of Walker Bay. These 25m square retreats provide king or double beds with high-quality linens, satellite TV, and private balconies-great for sipping coffee while looking for whales from July to November. The bathrooms of the suites include walk-in showers and products that are made in the area.
Rooms with a View of the Mountains
Our calmer mountain-view rooms (20-22m square) look out over the Fernkloof Nature Reserve and are a serene option. These rooms were recently redone in a mix of coastal blues and greys. They include blackout curtains, USB charging stations, and better soundproofing, making them perfect for those who have trouble sleeping.
Apartments with Self-Catering
Our Sea Village apartments are great for long stays or family vacations since they provide you a lot of space and privacy:
- 2-Bedroom Apartments (85m square): Living rooms that are open to the kitchen, washer-dryers, and balconies that go all the way around the building
- 3-Bedroom Penthouse (120m square): The top level has a gas braai, a double-volume lounge, and a master bedroom with a freestanding bathtub.
- Sea Village 7 (4-bedroom flagship): A private rooftop patio, two living rooms, and a gourmet kitchen with Smeg appliances
Rooms in the Annex
Our Annexe rooms (18m square) are affordable and yet have Windsor’s famous comfort, with queen beds and entrance to the courtyard. They are just 50m from the main hotel amenities.
Food and Health
Our breakfast area with a view of the sea is the perfect place to start your day. Don’t miss the smoked snoek pate and freshly baked mosbolletjies. We don’t have a full-service restaurant, but we work with Gilberts Catering, which is close by, to provide great in-room dining.
Take a break in our wellness corner, which has two treatment rooms where you can have marine-inspired massages utilising seaweed from the water. The heated indoor pool is the best place to unwind after a treatment. It is available all year.

Awards and Sustainability
We are thrilled to have won the Heritage Western Cape Conservation Award for keeping our 19th-century facade while also starting current eco-initiatives. Our solar geysers, greywater irrigation system, and connection with the Walker Bay Whale Sanctuary show that we are dedicated to responsible tourism.
The Windsor Hotel is a real Hermanus experience where every room has a narrative, whether you’re here for whale songs or wine routes.
