The Riverside Hotel

The Riverside Hotel has been a mainstay of Durban North’s hospitality scene since it opened as the Athlone Gardens Hotel in 1927. The hotel was a popular place for sailors and tourists to stay, but it was remodelled in 1998 to keep its charm while bringing it up to date. Today, it is a four-star destination that combines the leisure of a resort with the convenience of a city. It has 168 modern rooms and suites and state-of-the-art meeting spaces.

Our accommodation is great for both business and leisure visitors. It ranges from luxury rooms to spacious two-bedroom suites, and all of them include modern amenities like kitchenettes, DSTV, air conditioning, and free WiFi. Rooms for Families and Three People

These rooms are great for groups as they include a double bed and two single beds, so they can sleep up to four people. Garden or river views make your stay more peaceful.

Rooms that are easy for paraplegics to use

These rooms are accessible and have plenty of space, making them comfortable for guests who have trouble moving about. They also include en-suite bathrooms and all the usual amenities.

Suites with two bedrooms

These suites are great for long stays as they include a kitchenette and separate living areas, as well as beautiful views of the river or ocean.

Eating at The Riverside Grill

The Riverside Grill, our on-site restaurant, has a wide range of dishes, including peri-peri chicken livers, gourmet burgers, and seafood specialities. The coffee lounge and bar by the pool are great places to relax and have a meal or drink in the evening. There is live entertainment every week to make the atmosphere even more lively.

Business and conference rooms

The Riverside Business Centre has five flexible spaces, one of which is the Pelican Suite, which can hold up to 250 people. Our rooms are perfect for conferences, meetings, and banquets because they include the latest AV equipment, high-speed WiFi, and bespoke catering packages.

Guests can use the 24-hour front desk, a small gym, laundry facilities, and a 500kVA generator to keep the electricity on all the time. We are in a great location that is just a few minutes from Durban’s CBD, Umhlanga, and King Shaka International Airport. uShaka Marine World is also close by.
